CATTLE ON FEED: U.S. inventory reported at 11.279 million head on September 1st, up slightly from last year. This is the second highest September 1 inventory since the series began in 1996. The U.S. inventory has been larger than 11 million head for 58 out of the last 59 months
LIVESTOCK COMMENTS: The market remains strong relative to recent years, and it is offering a strong price for most classes of calves and feeder cattle.

HIGH PLAINS DROUGHT MONITOR: On this week’s map, degradations were made in areas of Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota in response to continued dryness, decreased soil moisture, poor pasture and rangeland conditions
SOUTH DAKOTA CATTLE ON FEED: South Dakota inventory reported at 230K head, down 5K head from last month. Placements reported at 35K head, down 4K head from last month
CALIFORNIA CATTLE ON FEED: California inventory reported at 565K head, up 5K head from last month. Placements reported at 69K head, up 8K head from last month
MINNESOTA CATTLE ON FEED: Minnesota inventory reported at 100K head, unchanged from last month. Placements reported at 15K head, unchanged from last month
WASHINGTON CATTLE ON FEED: Washington inventory reported at 205K head, unchanged from last month. Placements reported at 32K head, up 2K head from last month
CATTLE ON FEED: Placements in feedlots during May totaled 1.87 million head, 2 percent below 2021. Net placements were 1.79 million head
TEXAS CATTLE ON FEED: Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in Texas feedlots with capacity of 1,000 head or more totaled 2.90 million head on May 1, 2022, up 3 percent from a year ago
